This week, council here considered its open air burning bylaw for the second time.
The town first considered the issue on April 21. Since that meeting, town staff talked with residents about the bylaw. The new version of it has only minor changes to wording.
“Fire Chief Chris Harrow worked hard to prepare this bylaw. He has updated our by-law by bringing it in line with other municipal bylaws.
He still developed a made-in-Minto approach” said Mayor David Anderson.
The bylaw identifies policies related to the environment, open air burning, small contained fires, outdoor fireplaces, incinerators, and what would be considered an offence and the enforcement to be taken.
According to Harrow, “the new bylaw is being brought up to date, in part, to 2010 weather conditions.
It also tries to balance the concerns of residents, with regulations required by the province and it also meets the needs of the municipality.
“We think it is a good result,” Harrow said.
