ELECTIONS 2010: More nominations filed in north Wellington

The number of people jockeying for council positions in northern Wellington keeps growing.

Town Minto

In Minto, there’s the potential of nearly a new slate of council, with all but one of the positions currently being challenged.

Running for Mayor are David Anderson (incumbent) and George Bridge. Deputy-mayor Judy Dirksen (incumbent) remains currently unchallenged.

Meanwhile, as of July 23, four people have come forward to run for council – none from the current council – including: Ron Elliott, John W. Brown, Ronald Faulkner and Glenn D. Bell.

Wellington North

Meanwhile, in Wellington North, the four-way race for the mayor’s seat continues with incumbent Mayor Mike Broomhead facing competition from councillor Ross Chaulk and Mount Forest residents Janice L. Lewis and Raymond Tout.

What has changed, of late, is there are now contests for the two northern wards among various Mount Forest residents.

In Ward 1, incumbent councillor Dan Yake’s position is being contested by Shawn McLeod.

And in Ward 2, previously served by retiring councillor Bob Mason, the position is being sought by Ron Forrest and Sherry Burke, of Mount Forest.

The southern wards remain uncontested, with Lisa Hern having filed for Ward 3, and incumbent councillor John Matusinec is the sole candidate for Ward 4.

Wellington County Wards

Incumbent Mark MacKenzie remains unchallenged for county Ward 1 which, geographically, represents the entire town of Minto.

Incumbent county councillor Walter Trachsel is also unchallenged for Ward 3, which encompasses much of Wellington North.

Looking to the south in county Ward 4, which includes part of Wellington North and part of Centre Wellington, incumbent councillor Lynda White’s seat is being contested by Jim Heinbuch.
