Minimum maintenance standards in Wellington North have been brought up to date to address winter patrols and sidewalk inspections.
A recent report to council from council’s works committee noted staffing adjustments were made to deal with winter patrols, but now the township has to officially set out the months patrolling will be done.
Council agreed with the committee reccommendation that the period will be from Nov. 15 to April 15.
Public Works Manager Gary Williamson said the patrols will need to be performed “regardless of the weather conditions.”
Part of the recommendation includes winter help begins on Nov. 15 rather than Dec. 1.
He explained the Ministry of Transportation is trying to make things more formal with the minimum maintenance standards and the times work must be done.
Williamson said the department was required to perform a visual inspection of all public municipal sidewalks and deal with any difference over 2cm within 14 days after being made aware of that.
He added the inspections will need to be done in Arthur and Mount Forest annually around the same time each year.
Council’s subsequent resolutions agreed to the winter patrolling as set out in the revised minimum maintenance standards be between Nov. 15 and Apr. 15.
In addition, council agreed that the sidewalk inspections bto e done will be completed annually prior to July 31.
