When construction began at the Wellington County Museum and Archives on the archives addition last July, admission to the museum was changed from a set fee structure to one by donation in light of ongoing noise and general disruption for visitors to the site.
That change was positively viewed by visitors to the area and the local community.
County council last week approved maintaining the admission by donation fee structure permanently, for public visitation to the Museum’s galleries.
Admission to the museum will no longer have a set fee for general public visits to the site; however school programs, group tours, workshops, special events, and room rentals will continue to have fees charged.
In 2009, the museum hosted over 25,000 visitors.
The archives addition is scheduled to open at the end of June, with an official opening planned for June 25 at 11am.
