Victorian Order of Nurses announced last week that it will be participating in the North American 2010 Mayor’s For Meals campaign on March 24.
The campaign is designed to promote the challenge of seniors’ hunger and the role Meals on Wheels plays in the community to address that challenge.
Begun as an annual event in the United States to increase public awareness, recruit new volunteers and increase funding for Meals on Wheels organizations, the program extended to Ontario last year and events will be held across Canada this year. Mayors from around the country will be asked to help deliver meals with their local senior nutrition program to seniors in their community.
“We are excited about our Mayors for Meals campaign,” said Dee Dee Eurig, Program Coordinator of VON Meals on Wheels. “We hope to raise awareness of seniors nutrition needs throughout Wellington County. Mayor Mike Broomhead of North Wellington and Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj of Centre Wellington have generously agreed to deliver Meals on Wheels to our seniors in their communities.”
In Ontario, the Ontario Community Support Association represents the needs and issues of Meals on Wheels providers like Victorian Order of Nurses, and holds the licensing rights for Meals on Wheels in Canada.
