Township supports Plowmens Association

Guelph-Eramosa councillors and staff members have taken steps to correct what they call a major oversight.

Clerk Janice Sheppard said in a report to council on Monday night the Wellington County Plowmen’s Association is requesting the support of the township in the form of a one page advertisement in the 2010 Plowmen’s Directory.

Sheppard explained the township had not advertised recently in the book – including last year when the plowing match was hosted in Guelph-Eramosa – although its failure to do so was not intentional.

She recommended the township participate in the directory for the 2010 event, to be held in?Erin on Aug. 19, with a one page advertisement valued at $180.

Councillor John Scott said he is in favour of the expense, given the large farming community within the township.

Mayor Chris White agreed and said the township should be participating in the directory, particularly when the match takes place in Guelph-Eramosa. Council unanimously approved the advertisement. Councillor Doug Breen arrived late at the meeting and missed the vote, though he noted later in the meeting he too was in favour of the ad.
