Town council has approved a tender for various road and water system work in Hillsburgh.
Twenty-two contractors were notified of the project in January, with seven picking up tender documents and three submitting bids.
The lowest was from Drexler Construction, of Rockwood, for $969,061 including contingencies and GST. The other bids were from Allto Construction, of Orangeville (almost $1.08-million) and Capital Paving, of Guelph (about $1.11-million).
The project, some of which was completed in 2009, includes:
– the reconstruction of Mill Street from Ann Street to Orangeville Street and from Trafalgar Road to Covert Lane (including a realigned intersection at Ann Street);
– reconstruction of Orangeville Street from Mill Street to the 8th Line;
– reconstruction of Ann Street from Mill to Church Street;
– installation of curb and gutters on Mill Street adjacent to the arena and installation of storm sewers on Mill Street and Ann Street;
– improved parking for the post office and along Mill Street east of Ann Street;
– installation of catch basins on Trafalgar, George Street and Church Street;
– connecting to existing water main at the back of the arena; and
– installing water main along portions of Mill, Ann, and Church Streets, including fire hydrants.
The tender also includes construction of a water main on Pioneer Drive in Erin village, which roads superintendent Larry Van?Wyck said should be completed by April 30, after which Drexler will proceed with the Hillsburgh work.
