The Volunteer Centre of Guelph-Wellington is taking nominations for the 5th annual Wellington County Volunteer Appreciation awards. The deadline for submissions is March 31.
Christine Oldfield came to county council on Feb. 25 to ask for support in finding nominees. “We encourage you to support it as widely as you can,” she said.
Councillor Lou Maieron has been the county liaison for the awards with the centre since they began and he noted almost every year, each municipality in the county has had nominees. He said those nominated can be individuals or entire service groups or clubs. He added the nomination does not have to come from a local council. “Even just a neighbour can make a nomination,” he said. “Anyone in the community you believe has done good work.”
The nominations have to be made by March 31. The winners will be saluted at county council in April, which is Volunteer Month. The awards program, in partnership with the county, recognizes and honours significant contributions of individuals who devote volunteer time and effort to the continuous development of local non-profit and charitable organizations in Wellington County. It is those volunteers whose generosity of time and spirit provide outstanding service to the community and inspire others to contribute to making Wellington County a better place in which to live, work and play.
There will be one recipient named from each municipality in Wellington County. Everyone is encouraged to consider nominating a volunteer from those areas. Nomination packages are available by contacting the Volunteer Centre of Guelph-Wellington at 1-866-693-3318 or 519-822-0912. They can also be downloaded from volunteerguelphwellington.on.ca and from www.county.wellington.on.ca.
