Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott has been assigned responsibilities as Deputy House Leader for the official opposition.
In that role, he will work with Progressive Conservative MPP and House Leader John Yakabuski.
House Leaders from the three parties in the Ontario legislature work to establish the agenda of the house and attempt to negotiate compromise when there is an impasse.
“People expect their representatives to work constructively across party lines when possible,” he added.
His new responsibilities are similar in scope to those he previously held as an assistant Speaker.
In addition to his current duties as critic to the Ministers of Culture and Aboriginal Affairs, Arnott also becomes critic to the Minister of Tourism.
Having held the role between 2004 and 2009, he is already familiar with the issues and stakeholders involved.
“In times of economic challenge and tightening borders, Ontario’s tourism industry needs leadership,” Arnott said.
Notwithstanding his new responsibilities, Arnott said, “My first priority will continue to be the concerns and priorities of the people of Wellington-Halton Hills.”
