Cat shelter seeks votes for cash on rescue site

Cats Anonymous Rescue & Adoption is hoping people will take to their computers over the next couple of months and cast a vote every day so it can earn some money.

Cats Anonymous is currently home to 55 to 60 cats. The adoption charity has been finding homes for numerous cats, but they keep coming to the shelter.

Operator Tish Walshe said the shelter can always use cash for food, speying, and neutering.

Two American websites involved with animal rescue are operating a contest for Canada and the United States, and Cats Anonymous is part of it.

Walshe said Petfinder.com and animalrescuesite.com host shelter websites.

The two sites involved in the promotion receive free food from their sponsors and advertisers depending on the number of clicks those sites receive. She explained the contest attracts many visitors to the sites and prizes benefit shelters across the continent.

All the shelters that are eligible are listed on Petfinder.com.

Walshe said there are weekly prizes for the top vote getters in the United States and for Canada. Currently, Cats Anonymous is in sixth place overall. Weekly prizes are $1,000, and there is a $10,000 prize for the overall vote-getter when the contests ends on April 18.

“It’s a nice chunk of speying or neutering,” she said of the top prize.

Cats Anonymous has already been a winner on the site. It ran a contest for the most touching story. Walshe said Cats Anonymous entered one called Winnie’s New Life. It detailed the story of a very shy cat that came to her shelter, how she progressed, up until her adoption.

That story was worth $2,000, which helps pay for a lot of feed for the charity cat agency.

Walshe said it would be nice to win even a weekly prize, but she believes any publicity for Cats Anonymous is good.

“Even if we don’t win,  we’re getting our name out there and that’s half the battle.”

To vote, visit www.theanimalrescuesite.com and the shelter contest is right at the top of the page.
