Life saving crew

GUELPH – City police are crediting the use of cardio pulmonary resuscitation for saving the life of 55-year-old man who collapsed on May 13 at 11am.

Sergeant Douglas Pflug reported that a member of the Guelph Police Service came upon a group of men franticly looking for assistance on Gosling Gardens. Investigation revealed that the men were landscaping in Gosling Gardens Park when a crew member collapsed while driving a forklift.

Pflug said the man’s work partner started CPR immediately and was assisted by two good Samaritans who stopped. The man was determined to be “vital signs absent” when the officer and the two civilians performed CPR for 15 minutes, thereby saving the man’s life.

Guelph Wellington Emergency Medical Services and Guelph Fire Department attended to assist.

The Baden man was revived at the scene and transported to the Guelph General Hospital.

Pflug said it appears he suffered a heart attack. He was later transferred to hospital in Kitchener and is expected to make a full recovery.
