The County of Wellington currently has three active Community Oriented Policing (COP) groups.
They are located in Puslinch, Mapleton and Arthur.
Each has approximately eight to ten enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers.
A COPs program is being started in the Town of Minto. The first committee meeting is scheduled for May 31 at 7pm at the Palmerston Fire Hall, and organizers are hoping to find some enthusiastic supporters and committee members.
Anyone with questions or an interest in attending or being part of the COPs should contact OPP Constable Todd Pridham at 519-323-3130.
COPs groups continue to involve the community through the identification of crime, traffic and social order problems, safety and solutions. In the process, through a cooperative spirit, close, mutually beneficial ties are formed between police and community and contribute to a safe society.
In 2007, the Neighbourhood Watch Program was implemented in Mapleton and continues to promote crime prevention awareness. That program continues to develop in Mapleton.
COPs members are active in other ways, such as with the speed monitoring signs in the county, or they might have placed a Lock or Lose It pamphlet on vehicles.
Those are the kinds of initiatives that the COPs take on to make a better community.
