Water and sewer committee chairman John Matusinec is concerned over a septage handling request from Jamie McLellan.
McLellan attended the committee meeting to request permission to discharge septage at the Mount Forest disposal plant. He stated he had obtained appropriate licensing and starting this spring, and he plans to provide septic tank pumping services.
McLellan said for now he has no idea of what volumes he will be hauling.
Matusinec said the Mount Forest plant was designed to handle septic tank volumes needed to meet the demands of Wellington North residents and the committee had discussed how to regulate where the septage was coming from.
“We’ve seen a few haulers coming to the plate to haul Wellington North septage into the plant,” he said.
McLellan confirmed he would be hauling septage only from Wellington North residents to the plant and he would provide a manifest that would confirm pick-up locations.
He also agreed to make arrangements with the plant operator so he would dump septage only during the day when the operator was available at the plant.
The committee directed Public Works Manager Gary Williamson to prepare an agreement similar to the one the township has HFl Services Inc. for septage.
The agreement discussed at the committee level did not include a maximum volume for now, but did stipulate dumping procedures and will require random testing of the septage being dumped.
The current septage dumping fee is $.025 per litre would be charged to McLellan.
As well, the agreement will also stipulate the terms of the agreement will be reviewed at the end of 2010.
