Council made $76,647 in 2009

Though the information is released for information only, many residents are very interested in exactly how much money local politicians make in a given year.

In Mapleton, the total remuneration and expenses to councillors in 2009 was $76,647; up 4% from $73,525 in 2008.

Mayor John Green made a total of $19,359, councillor Mike Downey made $14,998,  Dennis Craven made $14,180, Jim Curry $14,123,  and Bruce Whale $13,986.

The numbers vary because of different amounts paid for meetings (other than council), conventions, seminars, registration fees, hotels, mileage, park­ing, meals and other ex­penses.

The mayor’s base pay last year was $14,973, while councillors were paid $11,646 each.

For other meetings, Green was paid $1,660, Curry $970, Downey $900, Craven $270 and Whale nothing. Under the category of “conventions and seminars,” Downey was paid $720, Whale and Craven $600 each, Curry $310 and Green $240.

Under registration fees, Craven, Downey and Whale were paid $739 each, Vurry made $525 and Green $214.

For hotel, mileage and parking, meals and all other expenses,

Green was paid $2,270, Whale $998, Downey $991, Craven $923 and Curry $671.

Also presented at the Jan. 26 meeting were 2009 pay and expenses to 16 board members who do not sit on council. The cost to cover the committee of adjustment, Maryborough hous­ing board, parks and recreation committee and the cemetery committee was $5,280.
