Wellington County councillors will ponder some aid for Haiti, but it will be nothing like the $85,000 the county donated to tsunami victims five years ago.
Warden Joanne-Ross-Zuj said in an interview the discussion of aid would likely arise at county council on Jan. 28.
She said the Association of Municipalities of Ontario has been working on a program to provide some cash for the devastated area after a pair of earthquakes leveled huge parts of Port Au Prince and killed what might be over 100,000 people.
Ross-Zuj said AMO was considering seeking donations of $100 per municipality for Haiti Aid. She said the county would pay $800, which would include all seven lower tier municipalities. She said when matched by federal and provincial governments, there would be substantial relief cash from across Ontario.
Ross-Zuj said she hoped the administration, finance, and personnel committee could coordinate the plan, and keep all the mayors of the municipalities aware of what is going on.
