The Elora Centre for the Arts is hosting a heritage lecture series in partnership with Heritage Centre Wellington.
The lectures are designed create a dialogue about heritage in the community.
The interactive lectures will help audiences understand the impact they can have on preserving and conserving historical landmarks and landscapes. Experts will be on hand each night to answer questions, offer suggestions and provide assistance.
The lectures are:
– Jan. 21, Taking Charge: Citizens Heritage Involvement, with Robert Shipley PhD, MA, BA, an assistant professor and director of the Heritage Resource Centre at the University of Waterloo.
The HRC is involved in consulting in the field of natural and human heritage planning and management. Dr. Shipley has been asked to consult on the study underway for a heritage conservation district in Elora.
– Feb. 25, Heritage Restoration: Meet the Experts Ask the Experts. Anyone interested in restoring an old house, or with other questions can ask the panel for advice.
The panel is Bill Wyminga – building and restoration; Andrew Dancey – historical Restorations and Construction; Doug Burpee – Master Stone Mason; and Edward Thomas, Architect. The moderator is Deidra Whitaker.
– April 1, Heritage Cultural Landscapes. Owen Scott is a landscape architect with special attention to heritage restoration, inventories, and analysis.
Scott has been involved with heritage landscape plan projects since 1976 including Fort York, Dundurn Castle, and George Brown House. Chris Hart is the manager and project coordinator for Greenlands Centre Wellington. He will present information on how environmental conservation can be allied with cultural heritage preservation.
Centre Wellington councillor Shawn Watters is a golf course architect. His firm specializes in planning engineering and design.
– May 13, Heritage Centre Wellington: Our Past Tomorrow. The Centre Wellington Heritage committee of volunteers is appointed by municipal council to advise on matters concerning local heritage issues.
Members of the committee will answer questions, and speak on subjects of interest to residents of Centre Wellington.

Tickets are $10, or $8 for members; and $35 for series of four lectures. There is a reception at 6:30pm and the lecture starts at 7pm.
