Grand Quilt Guild makes several donations

The Grand Quilt Guild met at the Fergus Legion  Branch 275 on Dec. 9, for its monthly gathering.

The meeting began at 6:30pm with a potluck meal, followed by general business affairs.

Among the attendees were three guests. The guild invited Fred Aleksandrowicz, manager of the Centre Wellington Food Bank, Colleen Cudney, manager of life enrichment at the Wellington Terrace, and Pat Culver, facility director of Portage, to the meal and to accept donations from the Guild.

With the guidance of the Guild’s community outreach team, members are busy creating sewing and quilting items throughout the year.

The Grand Quilt Guild was able to present Aleksandrowicz and the food bank with approximately 200 table runners to be distributed in its Christmas hampers.  Cudney accepted 20 lap quilts and seven walker bags to assist and comfort some residents of the Wellington Terrace.

The guild also had fun making about 40 pillowcases for residents of Portage, which were accepted by Culver.

Unfortunately, an employee from Ramoth House was unable to attend, but four baby quilts and four larger quilts for the mothers were made and will find a way to their new home.

The guild also supports a project called Quilts of Valour, which provides quilts to Canadian soldiers who were injured during their duty. To date, the guild has donated over 10 quilts in various stages to that endeavour.

Each provided insight into their organizations and the importance of community support, especially during the holiday season.

The Grand Quilt Guild’s next meeting is Jan. 13, at the Fergus Legion.  Doors open at 7pm for a time of social gathering before the official meeting begins at 7:30pm.  Guests are always welcome to attend meetings; there is a drop in fee of $5  per meeting. Everyone is welcome.
