Fergus Robbie Burns Night set for Jan. 23

The Fergus Scottish Festival celebrates a time-honoured Scottish tradition this month.

On Jan. 23, it will present Robbie Burns Night in support of the Fergus Pipe Band and Grand Celtic Pipe Band.

Taking place around the world on or near Jan. 25, the Burns supper is rooted in 18th century tradition and celebrates the life, times, and works of Scottish poet Robbie Burns.

Filled with traditional toasts, piping, and the famous Address To A Haggis, attendees enjoy a full Scottish meal and evening of entertainment.

Concluding with the singing of Auld Lang Syne, a folk song synonymous with New Year celebrations, Robbie Burns Night gives local residents a chance to sample and experience Scottish culture and tradition.

The evening’s program will be dedicated to an Immortal Memory Retrospective chronicling the life of Burns through his own eyes and women in his life, as reflected by John Kerr and company.

Wellington-Halton Hills MP Michael Chong will toast the lassies, followed with a reply by Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj.

The evening will also feature live entertainment that includes three of Burns’ love songs, Scottish dancing, and Celtic Voices, a Guelph choir.

Doors will open at 5:30pm for Robbie Burns Night at the Fergus Legion, 500 Blair Street in Fergus.

The evening’s celebrations will begin promptly at 6:25pm.

Tickets are $42.50 and may be ordered online by visiting fergusscottishfestival.com, or by phoning the festival office at 519-787-0099.
