Town council here has deferred what some officials see as a fairly tall order from Tim Hortons.
Last week council discussed a request from Maurice Luchich, a planning manager with The TDL Group, which operates Tim Hortons restaurants across Canada.
Luchich wants written notification of any and all future studies and official plan and bylaw amendments concerning restaurants, drive-throughs and idling vehicles.
He also asked that Tim Hortons be able to make presentations prior to the passage of those studies or amendments.
But councillor John Brennan wondered if the township should be responsible for the cost of time and materials required to meet such a request from a specific corporation.
“This is purely a commercial interest,” Brennan said. He suggested the town charge Tim Hortons for the information.
Town planner Sally Stull said Tim Hortons is trying to protect its interest in terms of a drive through. And while she admits in larger municipalities it would make sense to add Tim Hortons to a circulation list, Stull said there is no requirement for Erin to do so.
Town manager Lisa Hass said the town could add Tim Hortons to its list, but clerk Kathryn Ironmonger noted the town’s list includes only agencies required by law to be included, such as the Credit Valley Conservation authority.
Brennan suggested the town defer the request until it can get more information, and the rest of council agreed.
