Family Day is on the move in Minto.
On Dec. 16, councillors approved the move of the day from Friday, Feb. 12 to Monday, Feb. 15.
In addition, council appointed an ad hoc committee to work on those celebrations.
Councillor Rick Hembly noted the success of last year’s event. Deputy Mayor Judy Dirksen said there could have been a few more people out, but as councillor Tammy Reiner added, “it was cold … very, very cold.”
Reiner said another one of the concerns was that having it on Sunday would overlap with Valentine’s Day.
“We thought that might be an issue.” She added that other communities are planning celebrations on other days as to not interfere. Dirksen agreed that would a possibility and listed a few events also slated for that weekend.
“It’s a very busy weekend.” Hembly said.
Dirksen added that because the event last February also celebrated Minto’s 10th anniversary, there may not be the same obligation to do as much at the upcoming event.
“I think it would be good to still have something,” she said.
