Council recently passed a request from Concert Factory to hold events in Harriston and Clifford.
On Dec. 16, councillors held a closed discussion to consider if it should pass a bylaw for an outdoor concert on June 19. A memo from Director of Recreation David Stonley asked to consider approval. His report noted that in 2008, staff spent time and money investigating renting part of the Harriston arena property to The Concert Factory to promote and provide a music concert.
“Last year, that promoter ran an event called Saugeen Summer Nights and because of the trailer park there has over 150 seasonal renters, there were logistical issues.”
Stonley’s letter stated the promoter still wants the camping to happen at that location, but to move the concerts to Clifford and Harriston.
Stonley wrote, “This is another opportunity for Minto to bring professional calibre entertainment to our town and the economic spinoffs could be very significant.”
Mirroring discussions held last year, the promoter has asked that he not be named.
Mayor Anderson said a decision would be made following the in-camera meeting.
Council agreed after that to pass the bylaw.
