Pink hair cancer fight a big success – so far

A pink hair campaign to fight breast cancer is doing very well into its final days.

About a month ago, mechanic Nick Ascher let his sister, Kate, a hairdresser, to dye his hair pink for an Avon contest. The Ascher family posted two pictures on the Avon web site and for every vote they receive, Avon donates $2 to find a cure for breast cancer.

The results been good, said Nick and Kate’s mother, Sally.

“We have a total of almost 880 votes so far, which is $1,760 for breast cancer from Avon. She is continuing to push for votes, too.

“I send out reminders to everyone twice a week to keep them voting [people can vote every day if they wish] and we have several that vote every single day for both pictures.”

She added, “My personal goal is to get 1,000-plus votes between the two pictures … The support has been great.”

Donations can also be made at Kimberly McKeown’s salon and spa in Fergus on St. David Street North. Kimberly’s donated space and materials for the hair dying. People wanting to support the Aschers can visit www.paintitpinkcanada.com.
