Councillors here are holding off on support of Ken Furlong as a regional sourcewater committee representative.
Council’s decision to consider supporting the Southgate Township’s resolution for Furlong to represent the local municipal group on the source protection committee for the Saugeen, Grey Sauble, Northern Bruce Peninsula source protection region was deferred – now that there are two people to consider.
Minto is one of the municipalities included in that regional group. Furlong is a resident of Southgate and served as a councillor for Egremont Township, and later for Southgate.
During that later term, he served as chairman of the township’s environmental services and was Southgate’s representative on the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority.
He served on the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, the Dundalk Agricultural Society, as president of the Grey County Ontario Federation of Agriculture, the farm debt review board and Ontario’s advanced agricultural leadership program.
Dirksen said she had made some telephone calls and discovered a second nomination had been made.
She said there is time to consider the issue at the next council meeting and recommended the deferral to obtain information on the other nominee.
