The da Vinci Arts & Science Environmental Leadership Program 2010 has completed a project designed to raise awareness and promote biodiversity in our community. This student-driven project has resulted in an exceptional showcase of biodiversity art which will appear on and in Guelph transit buses. This public display has been made possible by the City Of Guelph, Guelph Transit, Sambrook Media, the Gosling Foundation, and Lumichrom.
The students determined that this environmental and artistic campaign would be best displayed on Guelph Transit vehicles as public transportation is an environmentally responsible choice and the posters inside the buses would allow passengers to view local art and learn about biodiversity while commuting. In addition to these posters, the da Vinci class has created a website www.whybiodiversity.com that provides information about biodiversity, its local and global importance and how members of the community can help support this cause.
The students will be showcasing their posters, playing music and promoting biodiversity in a launch event in downtown Guelph on Tuesday, Jan. 4 from 12 to 5pm in the Quebec Street Mall. There will also be an art show at Ed Video in downtown Guelph on Monday, Jan. 31 from 6 to 9pm to showcase these posters as well as art created throughout the semester.
