The Second Time ’Round retail store in Elora presented the residents of the Wellington Terrace Long Term Care Home with a cheque for $50,000 last week.
The thrift store opened in 1996, and since then has donated over $145,000 to provide extra comforts for the residents of Wellington Terrace.
The idea was initiated and implemented by staff. Second Time ’Round operates on the support of community volunteers who make up 100% of the work force. They run the store, sort donated goods, and create window displays.
Over the years, the profit has helped finance such items as a barbecue, a Snoezelen sensory stimulation therapy room, Christmas gifts and decorations for residents, a wheelchair bike, a bariatric bed, a summer student to tend to a special garden area, and several other items that help make the Terrace comfortable. The latest donation will support similar purchases.
“I would like to thank the dedicated volunteers who help run Second Time ’Round. These amazing individuals have helped the County of Wellington support and solidify our commitment to providing excellent care and comfort at Wellington Terrace,” said Warden Joanne Ross-Zuj.
Wellington Terrace administrator Peter Barnes said, “For local residents, Second Time ’Round represents a respectful local business showing appreciation for the community.” said.
“Our volunteers take great pride in their accomplishments,” said Donna Voisin and Doreen Hammond, co-coordinating volunteers of Second Time ’Round.
“We are pleased to present Wellington Terrace with this contribution. It wouldn’t be possible without the many donations we have received from the community.”
