A resident will be taking over as Minto’s clerk and administrator.
At the start of the June council meeting, Minto Mayor David announced the hiring of Marsha Paley. He said the announcement was made at council to officially let residents know about the decision.
Anderson read the announcement, which stated, “A resident of Harriston, she is well known in the community as a volunteer member of the economic development and planning committee and the parks and recreation advisory committee. Marsha brings with her 12 years of senior municipal management and has been employed with conservation authorities as well as municipalities in the past.”
She is currently the senior policy planner responsible for agricultural and rural issues including environmental planning at the town of Caledon.
She holds two undergraduate degrees in physical geography and agriculture and two graduate degrees in environmental studies and public administration. She is a registered professional planner and certified municipal officer.
“As a volunteer, she is the vice-chairman of the Wellington County Stewardship Council, the Canadian Regional Director of the Soil and Water Conservation Society and is a member of the professional development committee for AMCTO (Association of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario).
Paley enjoys kayaking, collecting antiques, art, gardening, and restoring her home.
She will be starting as clerk and administrator on June 22.
Anderson said the decision was made after a long, drawn out interviewing process.
“We had a lot of great applicants and we feel Marsha will fit in nicely with our staffing,” Anderson said.
In 2006, Paley was a council candidate for the Town of Minto.
Council also received a card of thanks from former deputy-treasurer Hazel Soady-Easton for its consideration of her for the position.
She wrote that the process was valuable, “but even moreso working in Minto for 11 years.”
Soady-Easton is now the clerk of the Town of Grimsby, and wrote that the community is benefiting from her experiences in Minto.
