The Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Eating Disorders Coalition celebrates International No Diet Day on May 6.
Established in 1992 by British anti-diet campaigner Mary Evans Young, International No Diet Day is now recognized around the world as a day to celebrate the beauty and diversity of natural body sizes and shapes.
Campaigns and celebrations aim to raise public awareness about the dangers and futility of dieting, as well as society’s unhealthy obsession with thinness. International No Diet Day is a day to stop obsessing about dieting and weight loss and to proclaim independence from society’s standards of beauty.
The Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Eating Disorders Coalition, in partnership with the University of Guelph Wellness Centre, will host a free screening of the award winning film, Girls Rock, in celebration of the day on May 6 at the University of Guelph, Albert A. Thornbrough Building, Room 1307 at 7pm.
Girls Rock will be of particular interest to high school students and their parents.
