The Centre Wellington Minor Atom’s have just finished an amazing season capped off by winning the OMHA Minor Atom A title.
The team of nine-year-olds is an equal combination of 17 players and six coaches from Elora and Fergus Minor Hockey now part of the newly formed Centre Wellington Minor Hockey Association.
The Centre Wellington Warrior’s (as named by the players) have been proud to play for and have been great ambassadors for the township.
The team played in the Tri-County Smith Division regular season, and competed in tournaments in Woodstock, Centre Wellington, Mississauga, and Newmarket.
The Warriors were successful in winning the Woodstock Regional Silver Stick Qualifier and went on to be International Silver Stick Finalists in Newmarket as well as being Finalists in CW and Semi-Finalists in Mississauga.
The OMHA playoffs saw the Warriors play Oakville in the Zone Final before traveling to Amherstburg in the Semi’s and Orillia for the finals.
The team was saluted at Centre Wellington council on Monday night, where council presented it with a cheque for $400. The players presented Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj with the puck used to score the winner in the 6-5 overtime final game.
