Drivers around Centre Wellington will soon have more and better roads to drive on – after they put up with some road paving.
Council voted on July 12 to award Capital Paving Inc. (Guelph) the right to pave five sections of roads in the township.
The low bid by Capital was $862,071.
Treasurer Wes Snarr said that once the township calculate the HST reductions, the final net cost is $776,321.
For taxpayers, that is a good deal, because the estimated cost is $191,378 below the bid. Council had approved a capital budget of $1.01-million.
The roads are to have all paving done by Sept. 17. The work will require:
– 8,025 tonnes of hot mix asphalt;
– 11,500 tonnes of granular material;
– 34,000 cubic metres of asphalt pulverization;
– 105 metres of cold planing; and
– 25 each of adjustment of maintenance holes, catch basins and valve boxes.
Streets getting work are:
– Gowrie Street North, in Fergus, between St. George and Hill Street East;
– St. David Street South, Fergus, between Princess Street and Union Street East;
– 7th Line of West Garafraxa, between County Road 19 and Side Road 15;
– Gerrie Road, Nichol, between Side Roads 15 and 10; and
– 2nd Line, Pilkington, between Side Roads 10 and 4.
As well, paving and servicing for Sideroad 19 in Nichol is now well underway. That road and others in the area will be getting sewer and water services, as well as new pavement.
