The Grey Wellington Theatre Guild (GWTG) is mounting another musical production this spring: Oliver!
Based on Charles Dickens’ novel Oliver Twist, Lionel Bart’s musical version, Oliver! follows the misadventures of a young orphan, who moves from the workhouses to the mean streets of London, and is filled with such unforgettable musical numbers as Consider Yourself, and Oom Pah Pah.
“We’ve assembled an amazing cast and crew for this production and it should be a fun show for audience members of all ages,” GWTG president Peggy Raftis, who is directing the production.
The title role will be played primarily by Kincardine area youngster Brontae Hunter, a recent winner of the Ontario Open Country Singing Contest in Blyth and a two-time winner of Port Elgin’s Pumpkinfest Harvest Star Search.
Wellington County will be represented by Mark Hillis, of Mount Forest, who will play Bill Sykes, and music director Brenda Manderson, of Harriston, who will leads the live band.
Oliver! will also feature the new state-of-the-art sound system being installed in the Harriston Town Hall Theatre with the aid of a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
Oliver! plays from April 23 to May 9. Tickets are available at Harriston Home Hardware, Garrett’s Hardware in Clifford, Shopper’s Drug Mart in Mount Forest, Blooms & Things in Palmerston, or at the box office at 519-338-2778. For information go to guelpharts.ca/gwtg.
