Treasures exhibit opens at museum

Curator’s Choice: Treasures from Local Museums, Archives and Art Galleries opens at the Guelph Civic Museum on April 9.

The opening reception will be held on April 8 from 4:30 to 6:30pm.

This exhibit will feature a treasure found in each of the collections of local museums, art galleries, archives, and historical societies in the City of Guelph, County of Wellington, and Region of Waterloo.

Over 32 heritage organizations are participating and all are members of the Waterloo-Wellington Museums and Galleries Network or the Wellington County Local History Network. Those groups meet regularly to share resources and ideas.

Some of the treasures included will be the farmers smock belonging to F.W. Stone, a drafting set used to design the West Montrose covered bridge, a typewriter used by Canada’s first blind Newspaper editor, Rixon Rafter, of Arthur, a Munro mechanical table top hockey game, a metal fire bucket used from 1850-1930 from Wilmot Fire Brigade, a handmade bass by Robert Jackson of West Luther township, and an etching by Homer Watson, titled Pioneer Mill.

The exhibit will be an interesting mix of objects, art and archival material representing the diverse collections found in Waterloo-Wellington.

The exhibit continues at the Guelph Civic Museum until Sept. 27. Guelph Civic Museum is located at 6 Dublin Street South.

Admission is $4 for adults, and $3 for seniors, students, and children, and families pay $10.
