Upon the return from a juried showcase opportunity at the International Folk Alliance conference in Memphis, the Funky Mamas were nominated for another award – favourite children’s artist or group for the Indie awards in Toronto.
This will be their third nomination in four months for major awards across North America. The other nominations included two nods for their latest CD, Rollin’ Along, including Best Children’s album for the Canadian Folk Music Awards and the Independent Music Awards where they are up against Grammy winner Dan Zanes.
The local quintet is requesting that all friends and fans of their music log on to help them win the national Indie award. The award is decided by online voting at http://indiscover.net/indies.
From humble beginnings at a playgroup in downtown Guelph over 10 years ago the Mamas are really making a mark as being a wonderful band for kids of all ages.
The Funky Mamas next local performance is on April 25 at the Guelph Lake Nature Centre. They will be celebrating Earth Day with the Rotary Club of Guelph’s sponsored tree-planting event.
