Summer festivals and events are in full swing in municipalities across Wellington County, including Mapleton Township, which will host two of its more popular events over the next few weeks.
Two Cylinder Show
This weekend the annual Upper Canada Two Cylinder Show will take place at the Drayton Fairgrounds.
It kicks off Friday – with a jamboree at 1pm, a pre-1960 tractor pull at 5pm and a ladies fashion show at 7:30pm – and runs until Sunday.
Featured events on Saturday will include a jamboree at noon, the parade of tractors at 1pm, and steamed corn, followed by a country dance at 8pm. On Sunday, a church service, modified lawn and garden tractor pull (12pm) and parade of tractors (4pm) will round out the weekend.
During all three days, those in attendance will also be able to witness live demonstrations, watch sawmill and threshing presentations, enjoy a variety of food and even camp nearby the action.
Billed as a true family event, the show also features various activities for children, including crafts and toys, “kiddie” tractor pulls and a “bouncy castle.”
This year’s show will feature Oliver Collectors, while the event’s featured tractor will be John Deere crawlers.

Drayton Fair
The 153rd annual Drayton Fair will take place in two weeks – from Aug. 7 to 9 – at the Drayton Fairgrounds.
The event, organized annually by the Drayton Mapleton Agricultural Society, will this year employ the theme of “Christmas in August.”
The festivities begin the evening of Aug. 7, with the gates, the exhibits and the midway all opening at 5pm, followed by the demolition derby at 7pm – definitely one of the highlights of the fair.
On Saturday, Aug. 8 shows begin at 11am – including heavy horses, goats, and dairy cattle – with the midway opening again for the day at 12pm. At 1pm a pet show begins, followed by several events for children, including Music Pups (1:30pm) and entertainer Erick Traplin (2pm).
A baby show and lawn tractor pull both begin at 3pm, followed by square dancing and a talent show at 5pm on the main stage and a tractor pull at 6pm.
Gates open at 7:30am on Sunday morning (Aug. 9), with a miniature horse show beginning an hour later and a beef show and the opening of the midway at noon. At 12:30pm there will be a truck pull, sheep show and Junior Farmers’ Olympics. The midway closes at 5pm.
Throughout the fair various food and refreshment options will be available and local musicians will be providing entertainment.
