The Barber Gallery is pleased to host the Da Vinci student exhibition running Jan. 30 to Feb. 10 with a free opening reception on Jan. 30, from 7 to 9pm.
High school students from across the Upper Grand District School Board have joined for the first time in a unique interdisciplinary course inspired by Leonardo da Vinci.
John F. Ross’ DaVinci arts and science environmental leadership program enables grade 11 students from across the board to obtain credits in the setting of the University of Guelph’s J. C. Taylor Nature Centre at the Arboretum.
This art show encompasses works inspired by various aspects of the course, including a five day wilderness canoe trip to Killarney. The students were also leaders for an elementary EcoArtist program in which grade 4 students came and learned about the interconnection of art and science in various habitats.
With concern for the environment, the elementary and the secondary school students also created sustainable art inspired by Andy Goldsworthy. Those artworks were photographed in Killarney and at the Arboretum.
The Barber Gallery, at 167 Suffolk Street West, offers free admission and parking.
