The School of Fine Art and Music at the University of Guelph is offering a concert series to celebrate over 40 years of making music.
The concerts start at 12:10pm on Thursdays in MacKinnon Room 107 (Goldschmidt Room). Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.
Everyone is welcome to the following concerts:
– Feb. 5: Feedback Loop Interactive electronic music featuring Marc Couroux, (York University) and James Harley, (University of Guelph). The concert launches the third annual Creative Music Festival and Symposium, which features performances, workshops, guest artists and speakers, and student research and creative presentations. The event is a collaboration of the School of Fine Art and Music, the Music Students Association, the College of Arts, the Guelph Jazz Festival, and NUMUS (Waterloo);
– Feb. 12: How the Hell are you Feeling? featuring Duo Vita, John Oliver, guitar and electronics, and Lynn Kuo, violin. They bring to life the creations of great composers, Duo Vita challenges the violin and guitar repertoire through the exploration of contemporary sounds, new composers, and the combination of the past and present with the new and innovative;
– Feb. 26: Yellow River Ensemble In Concert: Westward Leading, is a professional Chinese music troupe that performs traditional and contemporary Chinese music on Chinese instruments such as the dizi, zhongruan, hulusi, gaohu, erhu, guzheng, xiao, and various percussion instruments;
– March 5: Every Three Children-Remembering Africa, music of Carol Ann Weaver, piano; Rebecca Campbell, vocals; Anne Lindsey, violin; Ben bolt-Martin, cello; and Emma Elkinson, flute. The piece was composed for African children affected by AIDS, and to remember the passionate and vibrant Africa;
– March 12: Music of the Near and Middle East, featuring Light of East Ensemble. It is an instrumental group that performs traditional folk, classical Arabic, Greek Rembetika and urban music of the 20th century from regions such as Armenia, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Lebanon and Syria;
– March 19: Classics ‘n Blues, where relaxing classical meets fun jazz, featuring Trio D’Argento, Sibylle Marquardt, flute, Peter Stoll, clarinet and Kathryn Tremills, piano;
– March 26: student soloists day one; and
– April 2: student soloists day two.
