Passed away on December 13, 2024, surrounded by family at her home in Winterbourne, ON at the age of 81. Beloved wife of 61 years to Cameron. Cherished mom of David (Cynthia), Katherine Mutti (Dennis) and Rob (Christina). Loving grandma of Michael, Matthew, Sammy Hiseler (Blair), Rob Mutti (Emily), Liam, Luke, and Jack. Great grandma of Charlie and Celia Hiseler. Dear sister of Jane and Elizabeth (Stu) Eidse. Predeceased by her brother Walter (Joyce) and brother-in-law George (Rita). Nancy will also be dearly missed by her nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Nancy was a lifelong resident of Waterloo-Wellington. She grew up in a working-class family on Erb Street and met the love of her life, Cam, at a dance while he was attending the University of Waterloo. After their marriage in 1963, they opened their first business in 1969. It would eventually become the C3 Group of Companies. Nancy was instrumental in the early success of the business, performing key administrative tasks and keeping the books in order. She supported Cam through all the ups and downs of running a growing business, and then starting and nurturing other ventures over the following decades. Life at home was never dull, as Nancy continuously embraced new challenges like helping to build the cottage during their honeymoon, a move to the farm when they had two young children and a third arriving shortly after, accompanying Cam on many short and long distance flights, even taking part in the eastern leg of the 2009 Cross Canada Century Flight. While Nancy and Cam did travel over the years, ultimately the cottage and Florida became their preferred getaway spots. Regardless of location, she always welcomed visitors. Nancy took great pleasure in spending time with her grandchildren, following their lead in whatever it was they enjoyed and supporting their hobbies and interests. Nancy was a role model for all. Despite enduring five hip replacements and then a diagnosis of ALS in 2022, she was always empathetic, more likely to be found asking about others than complaining about her circumstances. She had a quiet, sharp wit that she exhibited to her last days. Even after ALS took her ability to speak and her dexterity was failing, she would find the resolve to type a few pointed words on her iPad or just smile and gesture to make others laugh, aware of the gravity of her situation, but strong enough to see the humour in life’s tribulations. Never forgetting her modest roots, Nancy was an ardent supporter of numerous charities and organizations. In 2022, she and Cam established the Cam and Nancy Wood Entrance Bursary to the University of Waterloo, Faculty of Engineering, awarded annually to fund first year studies for five deserving undergraduates on the basis of financial need. The family would like to thank the compassionate healthcare providers at Hamilton Health Sciences, Massachusetts General, Limestone Medical Group and Hospice Waterloo Region who all gave the support she needed to stay in her home as she fought her battle with ALS. The family is especially grateful for the many friends and extended family members who visited, called and messaged. Your support and friendship was very meaningful to Nancy and the rest of the family. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. A celebration of Nancy’s life will be announced at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the ALS Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family. Donations may be arranged through Nancy’s memorial page at www.henrywalser.com. Details of her celebration of life will also be posted there when available.
