CENTRE WELLINGTON – The holiday season is often celebrated as a time of joy, connection and togetherness, where families gather, traditions are upheld, and memories are made. For many, it’s a season filled with laughter and warmth.
However, for some, particularly seniors, the holidays can bring feelings of loneliness and isolation.
As loved ones travel, routines change, and the hustle of festivities take over, those who are older or living alone may find themselves struggling with a sense of disconnect.
To help combat these feelings of isolation, it is important to reach out to friends and family, and even make a few new friends by participating in the many community events offered in Centre Wellington.
The Elora Legion
The Elora Legion, located at 110 Metcalfe St., is host to a plethora of community activities every week.
The Legion hosts drop-in shuffleboard classes every Tuesday from 1 to 4pm. There is a $5 entry fee with a special cash prize for the shuffleboard champ. Those with all levels of experience, including beginners, are invited to join in on the fun.
As well as shuffleboard, the Legion hosts weekly euchre games on Tuesdays from 7 to 11pm as well as euchre in the club room Thursdays from 1 to 3:30pm. Participation is free for both Tuesdays and Thursdays and varying skill levels are welcomed.
For those looking to wow the crowd with a few of their favourite songs, the Legion hosts weekly karaoke nights every Saturday from 8pm to 12:30am in the Legion clubroom.
The Legion will also be hosting a dance party in the club room on Dec. 20. Dance parties are held every third Friday from 10pm to 2am and feature black light and glowsticks. Admission is free.
For those looking to connect over a meal, the Bungalow community luncheon hosted on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month is a great way to connect. Members of the community are invited to stop by and even take food home. Admission is by donation with lunch being served from 12 to 1:30pm.
