Mermaid Theatre, of Nova Scotia, makes a return here with a double-bill adaptation of the beloved bedtime classics, Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown and The Runaway Bunny by Clement Hurd.
Featuring puppetry, striking effects, and original music, the show is part of River Run’s family series and will be in Guelph for two performances only on Jan. 10 at 1 and 4pm.
Goodnight Moon is a celebration of familiar nighttime rituals, while The Runaway Bunny’s pretend tale of leaving home evokes reassuring responses from his loving mum. Both tales feature rabbit characters, and the soothing rhythms of bunny banter and dream-like imagery that infuse young readers with a reassuring sense of security and peace.
Originally published in the 1940s, the stories have touched children, parents and grandparents for several generations.
Founded in 1972, Mermaid Theatre’s adaptations of children’s literature have delighted more than four million young people on four continents.
Designed for children ages 4 to 8, River Run’s family series offers the opportunity to experience diverse and stimulating performances.
The series continues with the arrival of Major Conrad Flapps on Feb. 8, and concludes with the production Stellaluna on May 2.
Tickets for Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny are now on sale through the River Run Centre box office. Adult ticket prices range from $14 to $19 with discounts available for children, students, and seniors.
As part of the eyeGO program, high school students may purchase tickets at the box office for $5.
