HOLSTEIN – The streets of Holstein are set to come alive with the sights and sounds of a truly unique holiday tradition Dec. 14 as the beloved non-motorized Santa Claus parade returns for its 31st year.
This year’s parade will begin at the Holstein Depot at 1pm before continuing up Grey Road 109 through the village and ending at the Egremont Community School parking lot.
Parade organizer Manda Boychuck Bender says this year’s parade is expected to include over 30 participants.
“I have approximately 15 registered at this moment, and they range from riding groups, teams of horses and walkers,” said Bender.
“It’s always a weather-watch kind of day to determine the number of participants we will get, but I expect this year would be approximately 30-plus participants.”
Among those participating is the Jolly guy himself, Santa Claus, who will also be available for a cozy meet and greet following the parade.
“As tradition he rides the last float in the parade and then stops at the Egremont Optimist Building (which is located beside the Egremont School) to have his meet and greet after the parade with all the kids,” said Bender.
Optimist club members will be providing a light lunch to youngsters visiting Santa and the Holstein parade committee will be handing out goody bags as well.
