MAPLETON – Agriculturally-minded youth have been learning about chocolate in the Mapleton 4-H Club.
On Nov. 11, the club met at leader Lynne Flewwelling’s for its third 4-H meeting of the Mapleton Club’s Chocolate project.
“We started the meeting by saying the 4-H Pledge,” states 4-H press reporter Kate Wassink.
Club members then split into five groups.
One group made chocolate fondue & prepared the cake, marshmallows, strawberries and blueberries to dip into the fondue.
The second group made Bean Mole.
The third and fourth groups made chocolate and white chocolate mousse.
The fifth group made homemade hot chocolate.
“After, we got papers about chocolate from different times in history,” Wassink states. “In groups, we had to think of a creative way to tell the information to the other members.
At the end of the meeting, club members tasted each other’s cooking, before closing the meeting with the 4-H motto – Learn to do by Doing.
On Nov. 18 the club met at Lynne’s house for its fourth 4-H meeting of the Mapleton Club’s Chocolate project.
After reciting the 4-H pledge, club members picked eight people to start making holiday chocolate suckers.
The other eight split into groups and made rice Krispie chocolate balls, rocky road bars, chocolate bark, Christmas squares, chocolate crackle cookies and stained glass windows.
“The groups switched up a bit as people finished their chocolate suckers,” Wassink states.
“We than ate the rice Krispie balls and had juice.”
As always, the meeting ended with the 4-H motto.
