Cool crisp weather greeted Santa Claus in Fergus on Dec. 6.
To honour his arrival, 44 floats, four bands, and several walking entries assembled in the GSW parking lot, and marched through the downtown. Thousands of spectators lining the streets to greet the Santa and were rewarded for their patience with hot chocolate and candies being distributed by parade entrants.
The panel of judges reviewed the parade, and based on the theme, (Fergus Past and Present) eye appeal of the entry and enthusiasm of the people in the entry.
The winners are:
– first, Mane Attraction;
– second, Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Centre Wellington; and
– third, 1st Fergus Scouts.
Many people volunteer their time and resources to make the parade the success that it is. Accolades go to colour commentators, Deb Dalziel and Graham Giddy, and thanks to Larry Peters and staff from Cogeco Cable.
The parade is funded by financial contributions from the Township of Centre Wellington and the Fergus BIA. Elliott Coach Lines donate a school bus to be used for registrations, and James Sobol supplies the truck and trailer to float that Santa and his sleigh use along the route. Thanks to the judges, who volunteered, and to the members of the Fergus Kinsmen, Optimist, and Lions Clubs, who performed a variety of duties along the way.
Thanks to all the people that participated in the parade entries, and most of all, to the many who lined the streets.
The contribution of all involved, continue to make the Fergus Parade one of the very best in small town Ontario.
