Plans are underway for the 28th annual heifer sale by the Ontario Mennonite Relief Sale Inc.
The organizing committee is seeking animal and cash donations. A printed catalogue will be available prior to the sale which will take place at Carson Auction Facilities, Listowel, on Feb. 20. All proceeds of the sale will go to relief and development work of the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC).
“Our goal is to have 100 heifers, ranging in age from calves to springing heifers, and from grades to deep pedigreed purebreds donated to the sale,” said sale committee chairman Clarence Diefenbacher.
Organizers anticipate a good quality selection of animals from some of the industry’s leading sires.
“Over the past 28 years, the heifer sales have raised over $3.6-million for MCC through the donation of almost 3,000 heifers,” said Diefenbacher. “Last year’s sale raised over $185,000.” Anyone who contributes is issued a tax receipt.
“This is an excellent opportunity for farmers and agribusinesses to support MCC programs,” said Diefenbacher.
