The Fergus Truck Show will be running in 2009, and organizers expect to announce early in the new year where they will operate in July.
Chief Operating Officer Wayne Billings said on Tuesday the show has been negotiating for two different sites in Centre Wellington Township, and hopes to have an announcement by Jan. 5 or 13. He added that when the site is determined, he will also be able to announce the performers for the show’s concerts.
Billings said show officials have considered five or six sites, and had offers of land from up to 18 people who called. The show ran into difficulty when it was unable to use the community centre in Fergus. It was a matter of outgrowing its space after two neighbouring farm owners declined to rent their land this year.
The search has placed the show several months behind, and camping, usually booked in early November, is also delayed. The show’s website states, “Due to the ongoing site negotiations, campsite booking cannot start yet. We apologize for the delay, please check back to this website frequently. When negotiations are complete, we will post the new booking date and give at least one week’s advance notice.”
“Once we do our release … camping will go on sale,” Billings said. “We’re really hoping to make that announcement on Jan. 5. At least we can kind of get moving.”
