Town officials say the only offer received for a surplus lot on Mountainview Crescent, near the 9th Line, is “not acceptable” so it will be listed for sale with a real estate agency.
After returning from a closed session last week Mayor Rod Finnie said the town hopes to have more luck with a regular listing.
In February, council voted to declare the town-owned former well property as surplus and directed staff to prepare an advertisement calling for bids on it.
The “irregular” shaped lot was previously identified by town planner Sally Stull as one of seven possible locations for a Habitat for Humanity Wellington County (HHWC) project. Councillors had discussed donating a piece of land for the Habitat home, but Stull warned of setting a precedent. Councillors also discussed the possibility of selling a lot to Habitat, and then making a donation to the group to help offset the cost.
Habitat officials identified the Mountainview lot as their third choice, after the Waterford Drive location and another lot on Kenneth Street.
Town officials would not identify the one bidder on the property, nor the amount of the offer.
