The Perth-Wellington riding association is inviting people to become “part of the solution” by joining “the fastest growing political party in Canada.”
The Green Party of Canada has opened its nomination contest to choose the next candidate to represent the party in Perth-Wellington.
A nomination meeting date will be announced soon after confirmation of the nomination contestants. The deadline for nominations is March 12.
The Green Party is hoping to see electoral success soon. Party officials note that in recent opinion polls it takes first place among young voters. The candidate becomes part of the network of Green Party candidates where campaign preparations are shared, discussed and assisted.
Green Party Leader Elizabeth May is running in Saanich-Gulf Islands and is hoping to become the party’s first elected MP in the next federal election.
The Green Party is a federal political party committed to fiscal responsibility, social justice, and environmental protection. It runs candidates in all 308 ridings across the country.
Over 940,000 Canadians voted for it in the 2008 federal election. In Perth-Wellington, the Green Party received 9% of the vote, the only party to get an increase over 2006. The Green Party of Canada routinely reaches over 10% in public opinion polls in Ontario.
“We have a great organization in Perth-Wellington that is looking forward to supporting a candidate that represents the concerns and values of this riding,” said the CEO for the local Green Party Riding Association for Perth-Wellington, Anita Payne. “We are always looking to attract dedicated individuals who care about bringing the concerns of Perth-Wellington residents to Ottawa.”
Nominations are currently open for all residents of Perth-Wellington. Interested persons should contact the riding association for more details.
