OPP search for two people believed to have crashed stolen vehicle in Erin

ERIN – Police are looking for help from the public to locate two people who fled the scene of a crash on Trafalgar Road involving a stolen vehicle on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

Wellington County OPP responded to the single-vehicle collision just before 10 a.m., and discovered the vehicle was in fact stolen, and its two occupants had fled into a nearby wooded area.

The OPP aviation unit, canine unit, and Emergency Response Unit, alongside other uniform members of Wellington County OPP helped in the search, and several nearby roads were closed during the ongoing search and investigation, an OPP news release stated.

A notice from the County of Wellington stated that Wellington Road 24 between Wellington Road 22 and Sideroad 17 had been closed by OPP at 11am. A second notice, sent out later in the day, said it had reopened as of 2:30pm.

But although the road was reopened, neither of the vehicle’s occupants had been located.

They are described as a white man with facial hair, approximately 30 years old, with a thin build and wearing a dark-coloured hoodie; and a woman approximately 30 years old, with a thin build, wearing a dark-coloured sweater and light-coloured pants.

Police are asking people in the surrounding area to check their dash cams and CCTV images.

Anyone with information that might help with the investigation is asked to call OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or submit anonymous tips via Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or cstip.ca.
