County council voted unanimously to declare lands surrounding the Hillsburgh transfer station as surplus on Nov. 27.
The plan is to sell those lands to Erin for $305,130.
Wellington County purchased lands surrounding the Hillsburgh transfer station some years ago, but now that such use will not be expanded there, it could declare the lands, known as the Greaves property, surplus.
Councillor Rod Finnie, the Mayor of Erin, moved to declare the 41 acre property as surplus. It was seconded by councillor Carl Hall.
Finnie said in an interview after the meeting that his town will use the lands for recreational facilities. He explained that lands surrounding the property being purchased have been used for recreation a long time, with seven soccer fields and two baseball diamonds already there.
