ELORA – Neighbouring homes were evacuated and a body was found inside, but police say there is “no threat to public safety” following a vehicle fire here Thursday morning.
Emergency crews were called to a home on Wilson Crescent in Elora at 9:33am.
Firefighters were first called to the home for an “unknown medical” call, but one minute later, a subsequent page was sent to firefighters for a U-Haul “truck on fire in a driveway,” possibly with one person inside.
“Upon arrival, a van was located fully engulfed in flames,” stated a press release from the Wellington County OPP.
“Fire crews were able to extinguish the vehicle, and neighbouring homes were evacuated.
“Police located one deceased individual in the vehicle and are currently investigating.”
Officials say the Fire Marshal’s office and the coroner’s office have been contacted.
