Enjoy the festive season with an afternoon of Christmas cheer at the Wellington County Museum and Archives on Dec. 14, from noon to 4pm.
The annual Christmas Festival includes entertainment, refreshments, seasonal displays, family crafts, and activities. Expect a visit from Santa Claus before the day is over. Discover the true meaning of a Victorian Christmas as Dickens’ re-enactor Stephen Bourne, presents the Christmas Carol in two parts.
In addition to the Dickens’ presentation, the entertainment will feature a variety of local performers, from Performance Studios and the Not So Grand Choir. The Aboyne Hall will be transformed into a Victorian Christmas tea room this year; enjoy seasonal treats home made by Melville United Church Women, of Fergus.
Visitors can choose from several seasonal craft activities in the Nicholas Keith Room including, old fashioned pomanders, cornucopias, and Victorian Christmas crackers. Not sure what some of those unusual items are? Visit to find out.
Victorians added to Christmas food traditions with a variety of seasonal treats – visit volunteers in the Sunroom and discover the history and rituals around such Christmas favourites as gingerbread, plum pudding, and mince pie.
The Christmas quilt exhibit, A Few of Our Favourite Things, showcases work by the Grand Quilt Guild of Fergus. Members of the Guild will be on hand demonstrating for the afternoon.
