Township declares November ‘Arthur Lions Club Month’

KENILWORTH – November is officially Arthur Lions Club Month in Wellington North.

Mayor Andy Lennox made it official with a proclamation he read out at the Oct. 21 council meeting.

However, there was one small hiccup in the process.

As Lennox read the proclamation, acknowledging the ongoing work of the service club and its long history in the community, he discovered a minor but significant error in the document. It stated that the club was celebrating 60 years of service to the community. The correct number, as Lennox quickly noted, is 85 years.

As stated in the proclamation, the Arthur Lions Club was established on Nov. 14, 1939, and is a member of Lions Clubs International, whose motto is “we serve.”

After pointing out the error in the written proclamation, Lennox went on to say the club is “comprised of volunteers who dedicate their time to the betterment of our communities and aiding those in need.”

He noted the club hosts a number of annual events, including the duck race fundraiser, and has supported various charitable causes, including spearheading the Brent Barnes Memorial Skate Park.

Lennox posed for a photo with club members, while township staff quickly corrected the typo on the document to be presented to the club, which called the organization a “valuable service club in the community.”

Lions Club president Mike Marshall accepted the certificate  from Lennox.
